Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" place. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island, although it's not the case. Brugel grew on Courtice located just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond her dance partners. She admitted in an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. When I grew out of my male partners, I quit. Former dancers often turn to acting, and in the instance of Brugel, it was an urging from her high school teacher in drama. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. She tried out and was eventually cast as the lead for the role in Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on both small and large screens, attracting the greatest attention when she landed the part as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian actor in the season 1 of the series, and not seen much.
